Early morning spent ushering in the dawn stills my mind and calms my spirit. It leaves me standing in awe of the handiwork of God. All of creation sings his glory. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork.”
My own sentiments echo those of the psalmist David. I wonder how anyone could experience the hushed stillness of an autumn morning and not hear Him speak or witness the brilliant beauty that awakens as morning sunrise filters through colored leaves and turns dull hillsides into golden pastures and not feel the presence of God echoing throughout all creation.
As I pause to breathe in the cool, clean air of the morning, I feel the presence of God envelope me. He is everywhere at this moment and reflected in all I see, smell, hear, or touch. But it is not that I simply catch this moment with God, He is always here; it is just that in this moment my heart is finally tuned to hear Him. These moments are here all day – everyday, I just hurry past them without even a moment’s hesitation.
“Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.”
As I stand in awe at the wonder of creation, I feel so small and insignificant and am humbled that I even have a place in the wonder of creation.
Make me ever aware of thy presence, Lord. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
